RLRP meeting - LOW COST HOUSING
✅Update about the RLRP meeting✅
Dear neighbours,
here's some quick feedback on the public meeting that took place on Wednesday evening, 12 February. The meeting was about the government's plans to build low-cost, high-density housing in Bryanfern, including in the Arboretum, in terms of the Rapid Land Release Programme (RLRP).
The meeting was very well attended. Representatives of the project consultants, GladAfrica, presented on various aspects of the project, such as the environment, architecture, infrastructure and engineering.
Unfortunately, the client commissioning the proposal - the Gauteng provincial Housing Department - was not present at the meeting, despite being invited.
After the presentation, residents were given the opportunity to ask questions. There were very many questions, which the GladAfrica team answered as best they could.
They were at pains to emphasise that this project is still in the very early stages, namely in the feasibility studies phase. This meant that everything that was presented was a proposal and is not finalised yet. Many aspects of the project have not been decided yet, and there are still several steps of the approval process to go through before the project goes ahead, if indeed it does.
Here is what we're doing next:
1. We are setting up a question & answer section on the Bryanfern website, where we'll collect all the questions together with responses from GladAfrica. We will also host relevant documents (such as maps) on this page. The URL is https://bryanfern.co.za/government-building-plans-in-bryanfern/
2. We are setting up a Whatsapp group with all the people who provided their details on the attendance registers at Wednesday's meeting, as well as at the previous meeting on 2 February. Additional people are welcome to join.
3. We are creating an RLRP portfolio committee for Bryanfern. The RLRP committee members so far nominated include engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers and environmental specialists. They have vast experience, live in and around our area, and will be well placed to guide the process in the interests of Bryanfern. The BFRA committee will work together closely with the RLRP committee.
Should you have any questions or comments, please address them to rlrp@bryanfern.co.za.
Best regards,
The BFRA committee
